Father
Thomas Keating
St. Benedict's Monestary, Snowmass,
CO
Father
Keating is inviting 18 monastaries
in the Cistercian Order to join the
vigil, and is promoting the vigil
in other Cistercian monasteries around
the world, as well as among practitioners
of Centering Prayer through the Contemplative
Outreach network.
Father Thomas Keating is a Trappist
monk and a founder of the Centering
Prayer movement, which seeks to revitalize
the contemplative dimension of spiritual
life. The Contemplative Outreach network
promotes the practice of Centering
Prayer, and has about 50,000 active
members.
Thrangu
Rimpoche,
Kathmandu, Nepal October 31, 2002
"In
these troubled time so many countries
are experiencing war and famine.
Many people have a troubled mind,
either very violently disturbed
or depressed. In order to counter
these problems and to help pacify
the tensions of a disturbed time
such as this, it is necessary for
every person with a mind of compassion
to pray as much as possible for
peace and try to keep their own
minds happy and peaceful."
Prayers
will begin on November 11, 2002 in
Rimpoche's monasteries. They will
be doing the Guru Rimpoche Practice
and will be saying the Guru Rimpoche
mantra.
Thrangu
Rinpoche in Kathmandu, Nepal is in
the Karma Kagyu Lineage, with access
to hundreds of monasteries. A great
mystic himself, he is the principal
spiritual teacher of the Karmapa.
Neeghani
Aki Innini
Leading Earth Man
Sagkeeng, Manitoba, Canada
As
the Original Peoples of the Americas,
we fully support the efforts for
the Global Prayer Vigil for World
Peace.
On
November 9, we will be joining in
this effort of global prayer. We
will commence with a gathering of
our people. We will take the children
into the lodge and shelter them.
We will begin with a Feast. We will
be lighting the Sacred Fire to call
on the spirits of the four directions
we will bring out the Pipes, and
call upon our ancestors for strength
and guidance. We will erect the
Sacred Tree of Peace which will
stand for forty days and forty nights.
Cloth offerings will be offered
during this period by any who wish
to offer their prayers. We will
enter the Sacred Sweat Lodge which
represents the womb of our mother
the Earth, who helps bring back
our true destiny. The Sacred Drum
will be sounded to carry our voice
of prayer into the universe—into
all four corners of the world. We
will sing our most Sacred Songs.
Prophecies tell us that the uncovering
of the Truth will require the participation
of all races of people joining in
one spirit. The motivation of this
effort will be of Love. In this
time of crisis and division we must
come together as human beings and
embrace the values that unify us,
the values that bring peace and
love.
A very special lodge was constructed
in the shape of a Turtle. The
grandmother Turtle to Indigenous
Peoples represent the Truth. According
to prophecy, we have reached the
time in our evolution as human
beings for the unveiling of the
Truth. The essence of Truth is
freedom. We must free ourselves
from the wars that divide us.
Freedom is found in each of us
living our true spirits, living
from the heart.
The focus of our prayers must be
for the children. We must put our
faith in the future, which is our
children. But we must go beyond
this, too, and put our prayers into
action. It is the responsibility
of the spiritual people of the world
to bring the children back to the
center of our lives. The children
need the support and mentorship
of the spiritual people of the world.
We need to create environments where
we can truly love them, nurture
them, and honor their distinctiveness.
We must rely on the wisdom of the
Elders of all peoples who can help
steer our children to the Truth.
Neeghani
Aki Innini (Leading Earth Man) is
a shaman, mystic, and peacemaker in
the Ojibway tradition. As a peacemaker,
he has been to Israel to work with
Palestinians and Israelis to bring
understanding and reconciliation through
prayer and ceremony. He is actively
training young people in Native spiritual
wisdom as peacemakers.
Venerable
Tenzin Palmo
Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery
Tashi Jong, Kangra, India
"It
is essential at this time of great
world conflict that the many spiritual
traditions come together to pray
for peace in the world to benefit
all beings. We at Dongyu Gatsal
Ling Nunnery in northern India are
delighted and honoured to participate
in the Global SOS Interfaith Prayer
Vigil for Peace. May all beings
be well and happy. May all beings
be peaceful and at their ease."
-- Venerable Tenzin Palmo
Praises
of 21 Taras: Beginning 12 November
2002, our Dongyu Gatsal Ling nuns
(from Tibet and the Himalayan border
regions) will perform and dedicate
for world peace the practice of the
"Praises of 21 Taras" twice
daily until December 18, 2002, joining
those of many faiths around the world
in this important Global SOS Initiative.
Venerable Tenzin Palmo was ordained
as a Tibetan Buddhist nun in 1964.
After years of spiritual study and
retreat, she moved into a high Himalayan
cave, where she lived alone for 12
years practicing Buddhist meditation.
She advocates spiritual training for
women, and founded the Dongyu Gatsal

Tautra
Mariakloster
Cistercian monastery on the
Island of Tautra, Norway
Sr. Rosemary Durcan, Abbess
“The
Trappistine nuns of Tautra Mariakloster
join the prayer vigil for peace.
We will hold this intention of Peace
in our quiet meditation in the Presence
of the Blessed Sacrament these 40
days and will have a special prayer
read before Vespers and Lauds each
day. We will also curtail our diet.
The Sisters are extending an invitation
to those in their vicinity to join
them in prayer and to their Lutheran
neighbors through their local paper
(Norway's state church is Lutheran).
We are dedicating our daily Vespers
and Compline to this special intention
of averting war. Our chapel is
open to the public all day, but
especially during the evening
during these 40 days for anyone
who wishes to pray especially
for peace.”
--Sr. Rosemary Durcan
Prayer schedule:
Days and times that the prayer sessions
will take place:
Daily at: 5:05-6:05 AM (quiet prayer
before the Blessed
Sacrament), Vespers at 5:30 PM and
Compline at 7:30 P.M.
Introduced by :
World Peace Prayer
Lead us from death to Life, from falsehood
to Truth · Lead us from despair
to Hope, from fear to Trust, from
war to Peace. Let Peace fill our Heart,
our World, our Universe.
Venerable
Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche How do we
stretch our mind and how do we stretch
our heart? We have to begin by uprooting
our sense of self-importance, and
the tendencies we have to protect
and cherish only our self. We have
to get into clear focus the fact that
these tendencies are what make us
confused, ignorant and unable to truly
see and feel clearly what is happening
with other beings in the world. After
we get this into clear focus, we have
to cultivate a sense of big heart.
A big heart has room for all sentient
beings. A big heart must be stretched
to have room for all sentient beings.
It is a big stretch, from having room
and care for just one person, or a
few people who are related to us,
to having room and care for all sentient
beings. Yet all beings are in need
of happiness, all are in need of freedom
from suffering, and they are no different
from oneself. For that reason, one
must find room for all sentient beings
in one's heart. The Inner Net of the
Heart initative provides an excellent
opportunity for us to practice stretching
our hearts and caring for other beings.
Additional
Participating Groups include:
The
Asheninka Tribe of Brazil is one of
the most remote and traditonal tribes
in Amazonia. Their traditional ceremonies
have been preserved intact, and they
are currently training hundreds of
other tribes in the region, to restore
and pass on the indigenous wisdom.
Red Cloud is the Chief and Shaman
of the Cree of the Small Boy Camp
in Alberta, Canada. The Small Boy
Camp is a traditional Native American
community in Canada that removed themselves
from civilization in 1968 in order
to preserve their language, traditions,
ceremonies, and simple ways of life.
Their prayers and ceremonies are fully
in tact, and many Native people throughout
North America have gone to them to
recover the traditional knowledge.
Arvol Looking Horse is a Shaman in
the Lakota tradition, and he is the
carrier of the original peace pipe
given to the Lakota Nation. This pipe
was brought to the Lakota people by
the legendary White Buffalo Calf Woman.
For the past 10 years, he has been
organizing World Peace Prayer Day
in many locations around the world.
He went to Iraq just before Desert
Storm to try to stop that war.
Gangteng Rinpoche is the high lama
of Bhutan, in the Nyingmapa lineage.
He supervises over 25 monastic and
retreat centers throughout Bhutan.
Recognized by the late Dudjom Rinpoche
as the ninth incarnation of Pama Lingpa,
he is considered a national treasure
in Bhutan.
His
Holiness the 17th Karmapa
Hirota
Roshi, Zen Master from Japan, is initiating
Zen Monestaries all over Japan to
engage in the peace prayer vigil.
Insight
Meditation Community, Crestone, Colorado,
devoted an all-day sit on Nov. 17
at the Sanctuary house yurt to this
inter-faith prayer and meditation
for peace vigil.
Danza
Azteca de Anáhuac is a pre-Colombian
Aztec ceremonial dance group, based
in Taos, New Mexico. Linda Vellarde
is the Malinztin (fire keeper) of
the group. Danza Azteca de Anahuac
has traveled and performed nationally
and internationally and for ceremonial
events. They are dancing with indigenous
peoples in Mexico during the prayer
vigil, and will be dancing specifically
for peace during the second and third
weeks of December.

Dear Friends
in Light,
The Peace
School
in Chicago
is happy
to participate
in this
beautiful
worldwide
movement,
and I apologize
for notifying
you so
late.
Our current
practice
is
in harmony
with your
Vigil,
and we
would
like to
share what
we are
doing.
Our way
is
non-religious
yet deeply
spiritual.
Six days
a week,
in our
classes
here at
our headquarters
and other
locations
in the
Chicago
area, we
practice
together
Peace
Breathing:
inhale
thinking "world",
exhale thinking "peace".
This may seem
to be a very
simple practice,
yet it connects
us
with the bright
energy of the
universe with
the focus on
true harmony
and peace for
all humanity.
Peace Breathing
was developed
by the late
founder of
The Peace School,
Grand Master
MyungSu Y.S.
Kim. The Peace
School is now
headed by his
son, Master
Charles Kim,
who like his
father has
devoted himself
to peace for
all our planet.
We are a
non-profit,
educational
organization
and as such
we shy away
from "religious" terminology.
Master Kim
teaches that
every human
being is a
small universe,
and every human
being is contributing
to the future
of our world.
If we breathe "world
peace" even
one time,
we are
helping
to bring
peace
on earth
that much
sooner.
Peace Breathing
is also
a moving
meditation
as it can
be
done while
walking,
driving,
cooking,
resting,
etc etc!
Thank you for
connecting
so many
groups
in the
spirit
of lasting
peace.
With infinite
gratitude,
Jennifer
Kim.

Peace Prevail
on Earth! Having
received a
very powerful
inner prompting,
through
Holy Mother
Mary, to begin
Praying
for World Peace,
at the beginning
of October
2002, I
started praying
the Rosary
at least twice
a day morning
and
evening. I
am not Catholic
- but
felt inspired
to learn and
pray the
Rosary for
Peace: Peace
in the World,
Peace in the
Family
and Peace in
our Hearts.
The members
of our Ananda
Kutir:
OM's HOME Meditation
groups, on-
line and off,
were
also encouraged
to join in
their own
prayers for
world peace.
Soon after
feeling
the inner prompting
to pray for
peace early
in October,
I
read about
the Pope
declaring Oct
2002 to Oct
2003 as the "Year
of the Rosary",
adding a new
set of Luminous
Mysteries
and recommending
that people
pray the Rosary
for Peace:
Peace in the
World, Peace
in the
Family and
Peace in our
Hearts. Since
then, I have
learned
that throughout
history Holy
Mother Mary
has appeared
many times
encouraging
people throughout
the world
to pray the
Rosary
for Peace -
especially
at times when
war
seems imminent.

OM NAMO NARAYANAYA
-- Narayan L Babin
Dear Friends,
I am writing to let
you know that The
Theosophical Fellowship
and Heart Flow Worldwide
share
your deep concern
for peace, and join
in the vigil. Ananda
Tara Shan (1946-2002),
our teacher, established
some time ago a 24
hour
Vigil for World Peace,
which many of our
members and friends
participate in.
In the call to action
for the vigil, one
of our members explained
how this
vigil works:
" The
Hierarchy has
called all
spiritual people
to action by
asking
us to
establish and
maintain a
global prayer
and
meditation
vigil around
the
clock. The
world needs
to be flooded
with light
and love
constantly.
What is
asked from
those who respond
to this
need is to
allocate a
half hour to
one
hour time slot
each day at
the same time
of day or night
for
the work. In
this half hour
to one hour,
meditate
and send prayers,
light and love
to trouble
spots around
the world to
help
bring about
peace."
We maintain
a roster of
those participating
in the vigil
on our website
http://www.theosophical.net.au/vigil.htm
so that those
who wish to
do so can "tune
in" with
others meditating
and praying
at that time.
Ananda also
wrote
many prayers
and mantras
dedicated
to peace, and
an Invocation
for World
Peace which
we use in the
vigil and
at other times:

Dear Friends,
I have received an
invitation to join
the vigil by a sister.
I have already sent
out this invitation
to many
of my brothers and
sisters in
all walks of life.
I feel very strongly
that this vigil is
in tune with
the healing spirit
and I would like
to join it - at present
with two
other sisters - but
the circle might
expand.
We three are
set to start
on the 31st
of January,
Brigit's
eve in the
Celtic Tradition.
The three
of us have
a very strong
connection
to this holy
day
in both the
pre- and post-christian
traditions.
The
fact that your
vigil ties
in quite precisely
with Her quarter
of the
year has especially
moved our hearts.
We firmly believe
in the transformative
power
of the I AM
centre
of the
heart as the
door to a wholesome,
peaceful "WE" of
mankind, and
indeed all
Life..... we
believe in
the power
of
the Sun in
the heart to
make the
changes needed
today… We,
people of all
faiths, need
to weave exactly
what you are
uttering
your SOS call
for, a web
of free peace
through, and
with,
and for the
heart strings
of all people
and peoples,
upon which
the One
Healing
Spirit can
work her/his
miracles.
Be thanked
for initiating
this, and we
hope to be
good weavers
in this
work at this
cosmic
earth hour.
We will follow
it through
every saturday,
at the same
time,
until May
16th. In this
day, I
will make the
prayer on
the 16th -
Friday,instead
of the 17th.
In the victory
of light, in
the blessing
of love, for
the
free peace
for all life
on earth

• The Great Invocation
Hello Friends,
As you know, we are living in a critical
time of global crisis which
demands
we creatively act to achieve
peaceful solutions to our problems.
Since its introduction by the
Lucis Trust (www.lucistrust.org)
in 1945,
The
Great Invocation has been translated
into more than 70 languages
and dialects. It is used daily
by
millions of people from all
countries, cultures, and religions.
We are reminded by the words
of The Great Invocation that
we humans
are
not
alone in our struggles to build
a new world of peace, justice,
love,
and
harmony. Through daily use
of
The Great Invocation we invoke
the
spiritual aid of our Elder
Teachers, our Planetary
Guardian Spirits, our Angels,
our Great Sages, our Revered
Ancestors,
and
so on. By reciting The Great
Invocation with thought and
dedication
we ask that the 'Coming One',
that great personage expected
by every
major
world religion, return to our
planet.
This Coming One - The World Teacher
- is referred to by many names in the
major world religions, among them 'the
Christ', 'the Lord Maitreya', 'the
Imam Mahdi', 'the Bodhisattva', and 'the
Messiah'.
In the past few months, many organized
events of prayer and meditation have
been promoted via the Internet. These
have
no doubt had a profound
beneficial healing effect all over
the world. We must continue publicizing
these events and creating more of them!
Here
are two more
upcoming
empowering
events of
healing which
are worthy
of
note:
Feb. 9: The Great Experiment III
(www.emissaryoflight.com)
Mar. 3 - 8:
Gather The
Women (www.gatherthewomen.org)
Please publicize
these widely.
Whatever other
actions you
may perform
during
these events,
I would also
encourage you
to recite The
Great Invocation.
Thank you for
all you do
to heal this
planet. United
we are powerful.
Using
our love and
goodwill we
can positively
alter the
course of world
history.
Djwhal Khul,
a wise Teacher,
once said:
"The massed power
of goodwill, the dynamic
effect of
intelligent
and active understanding,
and the potency
of a trained and alive
public opinion, which
desires the
greatest
good of the greatest
number are
beyond belief.
This dynamic power has
never been employed.
It can today
save
the world."
Along these same lines, Edmund Burke
also once declared:"All
that is necessary
for the forces of evil
to win the world is for
enough
good men to
do nothing."
Towards a World at Peace,
Kosta
